Les Houches, Chamonix
Kick off your hiking holiday with this easy and scenic trail.
This gentle and picturesque walk follows a charming trail along the Arve River, heading from Les Houches toward Chamonix.
The route is mostly level and shaded by trees, making it ideal for families, beginners, or as a relaxed first hike in the Chamonix valley.
The trail begins at Les Houches train station. After crossing the bridge, turn right onto Chemin des Eaux Rousses, which runs alongside the river. The path winds through a peaceful forest and occasionally opens up to reveal stunning views of the Mont Blanc massif.
After roughly 1.5 hours of walking (about 5 km), you arrive at Les Gaillands, just outside Chamonix. This area features a small lake and expansive mountain views, perfect for a short rest or picnic.
From Les Gaillands, you could:
End the hike and take the train SNCF back from Les Pèlerins station, or continue walking approximately 1.5 km to reach the centre of Chamonix.
