Stay hydrated on the trail!
Plan your hikes wisely
Choose a hike that matches your experience and fitness level. For your first day in the mountains, it’s best to choose a shorter and easier hike — a common recommendation for beginners.
Check the weather forecast
Always check the weather conditions before heading into the mountains (for example on www.weather.com). Mountain weather can change quickly — a sunny morning can turn into rain or strong wind within hours.
Check cable car opening hours
If your hike involves gondolas or cable cars, make sure to check their opening hours and schedules in advance.
Bring some cash
Credit cards are not accepted everywhere on mountain trails or in small refuges, so it’s a good idea to carry some cash.
Wear Layered Clothing and Proper Footwear
Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly, so wear layered clothing that you can adjust easily. Use comfortable hiking shoes with good grip for uneven mountain paths. Avoid using brand-new shoes for your hike; make sure they’re broken in for comfort
Pack the essentials
Bring enough water (at least 0.5 liters per hour of hiking per person ), food or snacks (chocolate is always appreciated on the trail), sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and a small first aid kit. A GPS device or navigation app can also be very helpful.
Charge your mobile phone
Make sure your phone is fully charged before your hike. Bringing a portable charger or power bank is also recommended.
Hike at your own pace
Walk at a comfortable pace and take breaks when needed. Enjoy the surroundings and don’t feel pressured to keep up with other hikers.
Be aware of your surroundings
Watch for hazards such as loose rocks, roots, or wildlife while hiking.
Stay on the trail
Always follow the marked hiking trails and avoid taking shortcuts.
