This is a beautiful and relatively easy hike from Avoriaz to Pas de Chavanette, making it a good option for beginners and for those looking to enjoy the mountains away from the busy summer trails.

The hike starts in Avoriaz, near Lac d’Avoriaz. Keep the lake on your right and follow the wide trail towards Pas de Chavanette. After about 250 metres, you’ll reach a fork in the trail. Take the left path and continue uphill.

You’ll soon pass a small pond on your right. After another 500 metres or so, turn right and follow the trail towards the final ascent to Pas de Chavanette (2,147 m). The trail becomes steeper here, but the views at the top are well worth the climb.

At Pas de Chavanette, you reach the French-Swiss border. From here, you can enjoy impressive views of the Dents du Midi and the surrounding Swiss Alps.

For the return, retrace your steps downhill. After about 40 minutes, turn left and continue towards Avoriaz, passing the Crêperie de Chavanette on your right. After approximately 400 metres, take the left fork uphill for a more scenic route back to Avoriaz.

If you prefer a shorter and easier return, continue straight downhill towards the village. This option saves around 30 minutes, and Avoriaz remains visible along the way.
